TRDF is one of the well-known Medicinal Plants Conservation Parks funded by Foundation for Revitalization of Local Health Traditions (FRLHT), Bangalore, India.

It has developed an ex situ gene park with emphasis on rare and threatened medicinal plants of the area. Minimum population of 25 local eco- and geno types represents each species.

A very large demonstration garden in its premises imparts different themes such as garden of zodiac signs, rare and endangered plants of the region, garden of sensors, model kitchen herbal garden and plants used in traditional veterinary medicine. TRDF has nursery of 150000 seedlings and standardized propagation techniques for 150 species including species of conservation concern. Established an Ethno-Medicinal Forest (EMF) with 290 species, which is merely a duplication of the district flora. Each landscape represents their typical species and specific associations.

The herbal resource center abounds of 450 species of herbarium, germplasm of 215 species and 283 species of herbal raw drugs. As community outreach, TRDF established more than 5000 Kitchen Herbal Gardens and trained the community as self-reliant in their primary health care.

There is a mini water dam within the MPCP for the sustainable use of rainwater. This dam attracts visitors and transforms the centre into a picnic spot.
