Uniqueness
of PAF
PAF EMF was a part of a thick Reserved Forest before 1970. It was completely cleared and assigned to Ceylone Repatriates. We bought this area in the year 1984 and enclosed it in 1990. It is a part of micro-watershed of 300acres. Because of the soil conservation work done in the watershed, the entire flora regenerated within ten years.
At present we have 300 naturally regenerated species, and including the accession we have above 500 species protected in our EMF. This is very undulated and resembling a natural Forest rather than a man-made forest.
Due to FRLHT 's intervention in the year 1966 EMF has been made a scientific Medicinal Plant Conservation
centre.
Conservation and Out Reach
activities
Our EMF is divided into 146 Grids of 20 Metre length and breadth. Three hundred species have been built into it as accessions. Total no of Plants are 4000.
Similarly we have a herbarium ,seeds and raw drugs of 300 species.
One acre of untouched reserve, 0.5 acre of grass land and an Ayyanar temple form a Replicated Sacred Grove of a deciduous forest. On the western side of our EMF there is nalla. Along the nalla we have established Dry Evergreen species. By the side of Ayyanar temple we have a Planetary garden, and sthala vriksha trees.
